Mission

The Model United Nations (MUN) team engages in an authentic simulation of the United Nations system by learning about the UN system, the skills of debate, compromise, conflict resolution and negotiation.  The UN General Assembly, Security Council, and other multilateral bodies are simulated as students serve as delegates of UN member states.  Students prepare position papers, draft and revise resolutions, plot strategy, negotiate with supporters and adversaries, resolve conflict, and navigate parliamentary procedure while trying to resolve the international problems that affect almost every country on earth.  Topics include:  human rights, economic development, globalization, the environment, and peace and security.

Student skills that are developed through MUN include:  research, writing, public speaking, problem solving, consensus building, conflict resolution, compromise and cooperation.

Goals

To help students become aware of issues faced by the United Nations and to help students gain skills necessary to become global citizens
